Opportunity - The Other Side of Risk
SEMINAR OVERVIEW:
The PMBOKŠ tells us that risk can be negative or positive. We all know about negative risks, but when was the last time you found positive risk? Do you routinely watch for positive risks in your project? Probably not; very few project managers do. Why is this so? Positive risks are Opportunities. Are there really so few Opportunities available in this ocean of risk?
During this exceptionally uplifting and empowering treatment of Opportunity in projects, Dr. Evans explains that there are plentiful Opportunities available in every project, if we know how to find them. This presentation explains why we tend not to see the Opportunities that are there, and what we can do to turn that around. Participants learn a revised Risk Model that shows where Risk and Opportunity actually come from. With this in hand, attendees apply field tested techniques to identify and even create Opportunities that can boost their projects, improve stakeholder relationships and energize their teams.
Key things that an Attendee will learn from the presentation:
- We see negative risk most of the time
- Current project management practice tends to blind us to opportunity
- Much of opportunity is hidden
- A new Risk Model supports constructive work with opportunity
- Techniques based on the new Risk Model can help us discover multiple opportunities in every phase of our projects
The seminar was presented to the North Carolina Chapter of PMI on March 20, 2008.
